How to be a #SelfieExpert

20 February 2016

The Selfie has been around for awhile now, but to capture the best selfie is a bit hard to do and especially if you haven't gotten the technique down. I'm sure each of you have their own way of taking good selfies but I have my way and it might be the best way. If you wanna know my technique on how to take the best flattering selfies, I'm here to teach you girls so please keep on reading this article and I'm gonna show you how to capture the best version of yourself. This article is a guide on how to be a #SelfieExpert! I hope that you'll learn something new today so let's get started!

5 tips on how to take the Perfect selfie:

Tip # 1 Learn your best angles

When taking a selfie, it's all about the angle. Study your face and get to know it. You see yourself in the mirror every day, no one knows your face better than you.

  • Hold your camera up above your eye level, turn your face at a 3 quarter angle. I call it the universal good selfie angle

  • Let's say you want to look cuter, I like to call it the baby face angle and here's how to do it. Hold the camera up high, and bring the camera closer to your face. This will make your eyes appear bigger! Cool!

  • If you want your face to appear slimmer, hold your Camera and extend your arm out, the further the camera is away the more it will reduce the fish bowl effect. Stick out your neck but don't scrunch it in your neck or else you'll end up having a double chin effect and we don't want that! So elongate that neck.

  • Take your photo horizontally and take some test shots. Some people look better in a landscape composition. Or hold your camera vertically for a portrait composition

  • Look at all your angles, the more you find and learn all your bad angles, the better you'll be at taking photos.

Tip # 2 Find the Light

Best lighting that you'll ever get is the natural sunlight, whether it's outside natural lighting or just some kind of sunlight coming in your window, that would be great.

  • If you're inside, then make sure that you are facing the window and what you gonna do is to look at your front camera and turn around until you see the best lighting.
  • You can see yourself change whether you are facing the window or you are away from the window, it looks completely different. And the natural lighting makes the quality of the picture better and the photo will come out a lot crisp and clear.
  • The clarity will be amazing if you have that good lighting.  Remember brighter light means better clarity.  So go ahead and take a test shot. If lighting is good then let's move on.

Tip # 3 Clear your background

Make sure that there's nothing going on in your background.  Make sure that everything is clear like for example, a bunch of garbage at your back or food or a person photobombing you. By doing this, the focus is only on your face because that's what we are here for, for the selfies and not for the background.

Tip # 4 Finding the right filter

It's the hardest part. There are tons of filters to choose from depending on what application you are using. So you just play around with the filters and you will find what filter suits your selfies best. I personally use VSCO cam to edit my photos because their filters are so amazing!

Tip # 5 Be confident!

Confidence is the key! Feel good about yourself. Do your hair, makeup, wear a nice top. Do whatever that makes you feel very pretty. Let your personality shine through and be yourself! So whatever that makes you feel beautiful, do that because whatever that you feels inside will reflect on the outside.

Extra Tips:
  • When you don't like your arms to be showing in frames and don't want to be waiting around for your timer to go off, use your headphones to take selfies like a remote shutter. It works wonders!
  • Take note that your phone's battery will dramatically decrease when the camera app is on so switch it on flight mode or charge your phone before taking a selfie or plug it to your handy- dandy power bank especially if your always on the go and love to take pictures.
  • Put on some color - and when I say color, put on some makeup. We don't want to look pale in our selfies unless you are Beyonce *I woke up like this* :D
  • Practicing in front of the mirror for about a minute in a day on your smiles and different looks will minimize the need of seeing how you look in the frame all the time or retaking photos over and over which is time-consuming.
  • Avoid any kind of harsh direct light, having the main light source above your head will make your eyes look extremely tired and cast unwanted shadows all over your face isn't appealing at all. However, a pair of sunglasses will get you by this kind of lighting effortlessly
  • And lastly, Get yourself a phone with high-quality selfie camera just like the OPPO F1, It houses an 8-megapixel front facing camera with a wide f/2.0 aperture lens and a sensor size of ¼ inches. This allows for more light to enter the camera so you can take a clear selfie even in less ideal lighting conditions. How cool is that! :) For more details regarding its features kindly visit their website: http://www.oppo.com/ph/smartphone-f1/

And if all else FAIL which I doubt just SMILE! Have fun and Goodluck :)
